NCEA Maths past papers, marked against the schedule.
Method keeps NZQA's external papers for NCEA Mathematics and Statistics, from Level 1 to Level 3 Calculus and Statistics, and marks your handwritten working the way the assessment schedule does: the Achieved, Merit and Excellence evidence in each question, and the grade score it adds up to.
NCEA courses and standards
- Level 1 Mathematics and Statistics
- 91947 Mathematical reasoning and 91946 Mathematical and statistical information. The 2020 to 2022 papers for the earlier Level 1 standards (91028, 91031 and 91037) stay in the library for practice.
- Level 2 Mathematics
- 91261 Algebra, 91262 Calculus and 91267 Probability.
- Level 3 Calculus
- 91577 Complex numbers, 91578 Differentiation and 91579 Integration.
- Level 3 Statistics
- 91584 Statistical reports, 91585 Probability concepts and 91586 Probability distributions.

Every question is tagged to a syllabus topic, so your marks log shows which topics are costing you marks as well as your overall score.

How NCEA marks are awarded
NCEA externals are marked with NZQA's assessment schedule, not a mark scheme. Each question is scored from N0 to E8 by the evidence it shows: Achieved evidence (u) for using the right methods, Merit evidence (r) for relational thinking, and Excellence evidence (t) for extended abstract thinking. The question scores add up to the paper's total, and that year's cut scores turn it into Not Achieved, Achieved, Merit or Excellence.
Method reads your working against the same schedule, shows each piece of evidence beside the line that earned it, and gives every question its grade score, so you can see exactly what stood between an A4 and an M5.
Reading a standard number
91578 means the Level 3 Calculus standard on differentiation. Every external standard is examined on its own paper, with its own assessment schedule, so in Method each course's papers are listed by standard and year.
How to practise NCEA Mathematics and Statistics with Method
- 01Pick a paper. Browse your course's NZQA papers by standard and year, or practise one topic with a quick set.
- 02Answer it your way. Write directly on the paper on iPad with Apple Pencil, or answer on real paper and scan it with your iPhone or Android phone.
- 03See every mark. Each question comes back with its grade score, from N0 to E8, and the Achieved, Merit and Excellence evidence you showed or missed, beside your own working. Think a mark is wrong? Change it yourself.
Method is out now on iPhone and iPad, and Android is coming soon. It is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by NZQA.
