How AS Level marks are awarded

Cambridge 9709 mark schemes separate method (M), accuracy (A) and independent (B) marks, and some method marks are dependent (DM) on an earlier one. An accuracy mark can only be awarded when the method mark it depends on has been earned.

That is why a correct final answer with no working can score less than you expect, and why a slip on the last line usually costs one A mark rather than the whole question. Method shows you which of those happened, beside the line where it happened.

Reading a paper code

9709/12 means syllabus 9709, Paper 1 (Pure Mathematics 1), variant 2. Cambridge sets different variants of the same paper for different time zones, so check the variant as well as the paper number when you look for a mark scheme. In Method you can type the code straight into the search.
